A trifle is a delicious and wondrous thing. It contains custard, sherry, fruit and jelly. The following trifle is a store cupboard trifle, so you don’t have to make your own custard or chop the fruit. This trifle is so very tasty and very quick to construct.
YOU WILL NEED:-
A packet of trifle sponges – available from most supermarkets in the baking isle
One packet of strawberry or raspberry jelly
In addition, a tin of peaches, fruit cocktail (this is best) or raspberries (drain and mix the juice into the jelly)
Sherry is important to make this trifle delicious – preferably sweet – add about 3 tablespoons
Ready made custard is creamy and delicious and saves a lot of effort
Some flaked almonds (about a handful)
A couple of dessert spoonfuls of strawberry or raspberry jam
THIS IS WHAT YOU DO:–
Place the sponges in the bottom of a large bowl – it is up to you how many you use but break them up a bit
Slosh on about 3 tablespoons of the sherry and let this soak into the sponge
In addition, add a couple of dessertspoons of the jam and spread over the sponge mixture
Now you need to drain the fruit from its juice and add to the bowl
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Jelly is next – boil a kettle and make the jelly from the instructions on the packet, using the juice from the tin of fruit as part of the cold water
When the jelly has cooled add it to the mixture
Place everything in the bowl to set in the fridge
Finally, add the custard on top,how about piping some cream in splodges on the top of the custard?
Sprinkle with a handful of flaked almonds. Leave in the fridge until ready to serve
Delicious!
