How to make – Shortcrust pastry <\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n

I know \u00a0the general census of opinion is to use flaky pastry here but in all honesty I don\u2019t like it and for the short-crust I believe it\u2019s very easy to make ( \u00bd fat to plain flour: rub the fat into the flour with fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs, then add a beaten egg to bring it all together)<\/p>\n

BUT In my present mood I would say \u2018buy some\u2019!<\/p>\n

You will need<\/em>:-<\/strong><\/p>\n

8 x good quality outdoor reared pork sausages.<\/p>\n

1 large apple, peeled and chopped<\/p>\n

I red onion, diced<\/p>\n

Salt and pepper to taste<\/p>\n

2 tablespoons \u00a0of red onion chutney<\/p>\n

1 x free range egg<\/p>\n

How to make<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Set your ElectricKit Aga to 220 degrees in the Roasting Oven<\/em><\/p>\n

If using a conventional oven then pre heat it to 220C\/200C fan\/Gas 7<\/p>\n

What to do<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Split the sausage skins along the side with a sharp knife and put the meat into a bowl<\/p>\n

Add the peeled apple chunks and diced onion and season. Mix it together using clean hands.<\/p>\n

Line a baking tray with Bake-o-Glide and lay out a sheet of pastry (well done if you made your own).<\/p>\n

Imagine the sheet has a 5cm border around it, spread the red onion chutney inside this invisible border<\/p>\n

Arrange your sausage meat in a roll down the centre of your pastry and score the border diagonally down each long side…about 2.5 cm apart to create a chevron effect.<\/p>\n

Tuck in the top \u2018ends\u2019 first and then bring the side strands up to the top to make the plait effect. A dab of water on the ends of the pastry will help secure.<\/p>\n

Finally, beat the egg and with a pastry brush glaze the sausage plait with it.<\/p>\n

How to Cook<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Place on the second set of runners down from the top with the cold plain shelf beneath and cook for about 30 minutes until golden brown.<\/p>\n
