Doubt, Resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>My blogs are about living with a 13amp ElectricKit converted Aga<\/i><\/b><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A TOPIC OF HOT DEBATE!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Living without an Aga is not a possibility for me.\u00a0 I have tried, when various moves and finances dictated a different way to cook.\u00a0 The honest truth is I really don\u2019t know how to cook without one.<\/p>\n<p>Faced with rising energy costs and feeling hopeless about it all, I had my beloved Aga converted to a 13amp ElectricKit system.\u00a0 \u00a0Before it was an ordinary 13amp electric\u00a0 Aga, converted in the early 2000&#8217;s.\u00a0 \u00a0It was eating up energy. Westbrook Cookers came to my house and converted my Aga.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/westbrookcookers.com\/electric-conversions\/#controllable-13-amp\">https:\/\/westbrookcookers.com\/electric-conversions\/#controllable-13-amp<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I prepared a beef casserole, with carrots, leeks, cubed beef, lots of mushrooms and a shake of fennel seeds (my current passion) and some smoked paprika. (A vegetable stock cube as well).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>TOP TIP: &#8211; I find leeks are tasty in a casserole, chop them finely.(in my opinion they taste better than onions)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I added some water and brought the casserole to the boil on my ElectricKit hot plate (<strong><em>guess what, both of your hot plates can be turned to simmering (no. 4) or boiling (no. 8)<\/em><\/strong> Then I placed it in the <strong><em>simmering oven.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 The rule of thumb is &#8211; if your roasting oven is on 180 degrees, your simmering oven will be 70% less \u2013 i.e. 126 degrees).\u00a0 And I forgot about it. Before I fell asleep, the thought did cross my mind but I took it out this morning and it tastes delicious!<\/p>\n<p>My ElectricKit Aga enables me to set the exact temperature I need, so I can now cook excellent sponges (not that I do very often) and they actually rise.\u00a0 Turning my oven to 180 degrees;\u00a0 I\u00a0 place the sponges on the second set of runners from the top for 20 minutes.\u00a0 After about 10 minutes, I set the cold shelf beneath my bake to protect the base of my sponges from burning.\u00a0 (<strong><em>Remember, the electric element is situated below the base of your roasting oven, so it can be a hot spot).\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0If you are doing a long bake, i.e. a fruit cake, you definitely need to shield your bake from cooking the base too quickly.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Here is the recipe for my Beef Casserole, using my ElectricKit Aga<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>RECIPE<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>11b stewing beef, cubed (1\/2 Kilo)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>About 3 carrots, chopped<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>6 large mushrooms, chopped<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>1 clove of garlic<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A large fat leek, finely chopped (better flavour than chopped onion)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>vegetable stock cube x 1<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Shake of fennel seeds<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Good sprinkle of smoked paprika<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1933\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1933\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1933\" src=\"https:\/\/westbrookcookers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/AGA-BEEF-CASSEROLE-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Aga Beef casserole\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westbrookcookers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/AGA-BEEF-CASSEROLE-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/westbrookcookers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/AGA-BEEF-CASSEROLE-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/westbrookcookers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/AGA-BEEF-CASSEROLE.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1933\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aga Beef Casserole<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Heat your hot plate to no. 8. (from cold, this will take approximately 8 minutes.\u00a0 If you keep your Aga (ticking over) on 150 degrees, the hot plate will heat up a little quicker.<\/p>\n<p>Fry the beef cubes in a little rapeseed oil (enough to brown the outsides).<\/p>\n<p>Add the garlic, the carrots, the leek and the mushrooms. Blend all together on your hot plate for about 5 minutes.\u00a0 Add the fennel seeds and smoked paprika.<\/p>\n<p>Crush the stock cube over your mix, and bring to boil with some water.\u00a0 You will need enough to cover the beef mixture and a bit more.<\/p>\n<p>Turn down your ElectricKit dial for the top plateto no. 5, and mix it up for about 5 minutes to come back to the boil,\u00a0 and then transfer to your <strong><em>simmering oven.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Place the top on your casserole dish.\u00a0 Turn off your hot plate.<\/p>\n<p>Then go away and forget about it,\u00a0 paint a picture, clean the kitchen floor, or go to bed \u2013 it matters not, but at least leave it in there for 3 &#8211; 5 hours.\u00a0 (As a rule, I don\u2019t recommend going to bed and leaving your casserole overnight, unless you keep your roasting oven at 150 degrees, which in turn will give you a slightly less warm simmering oven).<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My blogs are about living with a 13amp ElectricKit converted Aga\u00a0 A TOPIC OF HOT DEBATE!
